Is it bad to stay in a wet swimsuit?
Picture this: the setting of the scene is summer – you are well-rested from sleeping in. You stumble outside to your crystal clear and perfectly heated pool, where you lay beside as you soak in the sunshine, and take a dip into the refreshing cool water when you are feeling too warm. Birds are chirping and it smells like freshly cut grass. The taste of lemonade is fresh on your tongue. Everything is right in the world. You stay out there forhours, simply because you can! Though spending a long time poolside isn’t necessarily a bad thing in itself, it actually can present a problem if you’re lounging in a wet swimsuit for too long unfortunately.
The problem with staying in a wet swimsuit is the moist environment can become a breeding ground for bacteria and fungus to grow rampant – causing an array of problems from yeast infection to UTI and beyond. It can also cause some skin irritations, like a rash and itchiness. It is important to be mindful of taking off your swimsuit not long after you’re done swimming to avoid some of these pesky problems. Of course, it doesn’t have to be an immediate change, but if hours are passing by and you’re still in a damp swimsuit, then you probably want to consider getting changed. Don’t be too down on yourself if this is something you do, though – there are plenty of people out there who are in the same boat as you! This isn’t something that too many people talk about as many people are guilty of doing this each season. You should fear not – we do have some tips on how to avoid the temptation of staying in a wet swimsuit and getting one of those nasty bacterial infections.
The key to avoiding staying in a wet swimsuit is to make it as easy as possible to take off. The first suggestion is to choose a swimsuit that is “no fuss” when it comes to changing. This is where two-piece swimsuits really shine. Anything from a string bikini to full-coverage swimsuit bottoms are perfect for this because it’s as simple as pulling down on the bottoms, and voila – you’re out of your swimsuit! We love these retro bikini bottoms because they’re so easy to take on and off (making it perfect for avoiding those potential infections) while also having the most delightful print and style. The fabric is super soft, too, but you’ll have to try it yourself to believe us.
These lightweight modest bikini bottoms are also really lightweight and breathable which will definitely aid in any trapped moisture you might have before you decide to change. Similarly, these white tankini bottoms are just as good as the other ones mentioned because the elastic really stretches making it as easy as possible to take on and off.
While two-piece swimsuits may be the obvious choice when choosing a swimsuit that is easy to take off, if you play your cards right, then you’ll find that some one-piece swimsuits are just as easy to get in and out of. For example, this modest black one piece swimsuit is perfect because there is so much stretch in the body of the suit. It also has adjustable straps that you can lengthen to make it easier to squeeze your arm out of. We also love this preppy one piece swimsuit because the straps are very stretchy making it super easy to change out of, too (not to mention the adorable gingham print that makes a summer tan really pop!).
So, to answer your question – YES, it is bad to stay in a wet swimsuit (for long periods of time). But there are definitely some steps you can take, like finding the perfect swimsuit that is easy to change out of, that will help you avoid staying in your wet swimsuit too long and getting an unwanted problem. Hope this helps!
