A Guide for Guys: Purchasing a Swimsuit for Your Wife or Girlfriend, Like Our Floral High-Waist Bikini

Guys: This blog post is specifically for you! Have you ever wanted to purchase a new swimsuit for your wife or girlfriend, but had no idea what size or what style you should buy? Maybe you’re getting ready to take a vacation together and want to surprise her with a new swimsuit, or you’ve noticed she’s been wearing the same couple of swimsuits for a while, and they’re starting to fade from being exposed to chlorine for so long. Whatever the reason, we’re here to help you select a swimsuit that your girl will love!

Let’s start with swimsuit styles. This can be tricky because there are so many different body types out there, and some swimsuits are not particularly flattering on certain types of bodies. In addition, some women just aren’t comfortable in certain types of swimsuits. For example, string bikini tops are not great for women with large breasts, because they need more support than those types of swimsuit tops provide. Women with long torsos often have trouble with the fit of one-piece swimsuits.

Now, let’s move on to how you select a size for your wife or girlfriend’s swimsuit. Here at by Alanna, we sell swimsuits in sizes XS to XXL, and the tops and bottoms of our two-piece swimsuits are sold separately. To figure out what size to buy, first go to our handy sizing chart. You’ll notice that the sizes correlate to bust, waist, and hip measurements. You could certainly ask your wife or girlfriend for her measurements, but if you want the swimsuit to be a surprise, here is where to find those numbers. For bust size, look at the tag on one of her bras. It should have a number and a letter on it, such as 32A or 38D. The number portion is what you’re looking for. So, if your wife or girlfriend’s bra size is 36C, you would buy her a L or XL swimsuit top.

Next, you’ll want to look at a pair of her jeans to find her waist size to figure out which size to select for the swimsuit bottoms. Unfortunately, not all women’s jeans are sized this way. Some are sized 0-24, and those numbers do not correlate to waist size. You might need to look at several of her pairs of jeans until you find a pair that has a waist size listed. (Tip: make sure it’s a pair of jeans that she actually wears! Some women hold on to old jeans that don’t fit, for whatever reason.) Unlike men’s jeans, women’s jeans don’t list an inseam length, so the number you see on the tag is the waist size. The number may be accompanied by a letter, such as S, R, or L, which stand for “short,” “regular,” and “long,” but you don’t need to worry about those when shopping for swimsuit bottoms. Select the size that is closest to her waist measurement. If the measurement is in between two sizes, we suggest that you size down. (For example, if her waist measurement is 30”, you would purchase a size L.)
